Abstract

BOIKOVSKI, St., G. STAYKOVA, G. STEFANOVA and N. STANCHEVA, 2005. Some technical properties of wool of sheep from the Copper-Red Shumen strain and from the Karakachan breed. Bulge. J. Agric. Sci., 11: 207-215

It was established as a result of our study that the amount of clean fiber and the unwashed wool output were lowest at 1.5 years of age in the sheep from the Copper-Red Shumen strain and from the Karakachan breed.
In the sheep from the Karakachan breed the middle and the outer fraction, corresponding to the upper and the middle layer of the fleece had highest relative part of the total fiber number of the side and the leg. The relative part of the total fiber number of the side and the leg in the sheep from the Copper-Red strain was highest of the middle and inner fraction.
The peak of distribution of the downy fibers of the side in sheep from the Copper-Red Shumen strain was about 27.0 m and in the Karakachan sheep - 29.0 m. There was an equal tendency for the transitional fibers of the side and their biggest number was about 37.0 m and for the barbate ones - 55.0 m.
