Abstract

NIKOLOVA, L., 2004. Results from interspecific hybridization between Helianthus grosseserratus Martens and H. annuus L. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 10: 291-298

Interspecific hybridization was carried out between the wild perennial diploid species Helianthus grosseserratus Martens and cultivated H. annuus L. The cross compatibility between H. grosseserratus and H. annuus, the hybrid seed set and germination and vitality of the hybrid seeds were studied. The F1 hybrids were examined for growing habit, morphological, biological and biochemical traits. Heterosis, inheritance, depression and transgression traits were also studied in F1 and F2 generations. Resistance to Plasmopara helianthi, Orobanche cumana and Phomopsis helianthi were investigated in different progenies of the interspecific hybrids of H. grosseserratus.
