Abstract

MANIS, I., Chr. NECHEV and S. PANDELIEV, 2003. Comparative characteristics of soil and climatic conditions in some regions of Bulgaria and Greece and their suitability for growing grapevine cultivars. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 9: 585–596

Data are given for the soil and climatic conditions of the village of Spassovo, a typical viticulture region in Bulgaria, in comparison with those of the town of Ioannina, Northwest Greece. The fact that both regions are located in the zone of similar climate conditions with the same soil complex implies that viticulture has good prospects for developing in the region of Ioannina and the south slopes of the foot of the Pindos mountain, by optimizing winter bud load of vines to produce origin and brand controlled wines.
