Abstract

TSVETKOV, S. M., K. S. TSVETKOV and M. ATANASOVA, 2003. Winter poly-rowed awnless cv. Tsvetelina (Hordeum sativum Jess., ssp. vulgare L., var. dundar-beyi Zhuk.) – a joint product of ICARDA and Dobroudja Agricultural Institute, General Toshevo, Bulgaria. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 9: 129–131

For the first time in Bulgaria, an original awnless cultivar Tsvetelina was created in 2000 by means of selection within a hybrid population of awned and awnless barley in F2, originating from ICARDA. Taxonomically, it belongs to Hordeum sativum Jess., ssp. Vulgare L., var. dundar-beyi Zhuk. The productive capacity of the cultivar is within 8000–9000 kg/ha. One of a few cultivars with well expressed drought resistance. During the extreme drought of 2001, the awnless (six-rowed) cv. Tsvetelina produced the superb yield of 9160 kg/ha vs. 7213 kg/ha for the common winter wheat Sadovo 1.
