ENCHEVA, J., M. CHRISTOV and P. IVANOV, 2003. Characterization of self fertile lines, produced by hybridization between cultivated sunflower (H. annuus L.) and distant species from the genera Helianthus and Verbisina. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 9: 23–28
Using the method of direct organogenesis, applied for the first time at the Biotechnology Laboratory of DAI-General Toshevo, new sunflower lines were produced from interspecific and intergeneric crosses between cultural sunflower Helianthus annuus (cv. Albena) as female parent and Helianthus salicifolius, Helianthus tuberosus and Verbisina helianthoides (genera Verbisina) as male parent. After repeated selfing and continuous selection, a great diversity of new sunflower lines were developed. They could be used directly in the heterosis selection as R lines. Others could be used for the production of new sunflower lines and cultivars.
