Abstract

GREISS, H., N. PETKOV, K. BOICHEV and Z. PETKOV, 2002. Study on Improved technology for silkworm Bombyx mori L. rearing in Egypt. I. Industrial cocoon production. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 8: 605–609

Results from investigating an improved technology for silkworm Bombyx mori L. rearing for industrial cocoon production in Egypt are shown. It has been determined that in comparison to traditional technology, applying improved technology for industrial cocoons production leads to decrease of larval duration at 24 h, increasing of values of pupation ratio character with 16.13–17.63 %, cocoon weight character with 0.375–0.599 g, shell weight character with 0.123–0.167 g and raw cocoon yield per box (20 000±200 viable eggs) with 11.47–20.80 kg.
The relatively biggest participation in cocoon production increase from separate elements of improved technology was the application of new method for silkworm and bed disinfection (31–40 %), rearing houses and appliances disinfection (13–20 %) and balanced mulberry plantation fertilization with primary macronutrients (NPK), secondary macro-nutrients (Ca, S and Mg) and micronutrients (Mn, Fe, Zn, Cu, B, Mn and Cl) – 11–16 %.
