This paper reviews and synthesises the agro-food competitiveness in Slovenia by using the Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM) approach. Slovenia experienced relatively high agricultural protection and relatively low efficiency and international competitiveness. Unfavourable natural conditions, fragmented farm structures and the relatively high costs of non-tradable primary domestic factors hinder Slovenian agricultural international competitiveness. As agricultural products are largely traded in a processed form, the food processing sector is expected to play more important positive role in improving efficiency and international competitiveness in the agro-food chain.
