Evaluation of Hordein Spectra in Barley Germplasm Created by the Method of Composite Crosses

Acid hordein PAGE is used to evaluate 54 barley genotypes. 29 of them are created by the method of the composite crosses (CC) based on cms-system. One CC population is synthesized from 4 cytoplasmic male sterile analogues, 7 two-row winter barley cultivars and 4 adapted foreign lines with fertility restoring Rf gene. The new barley germplasm created by the method of CC is described by large scale of variation in hordein spectra. The hordeins polymorphism is classified in eight groups according to the B-hordeins structure. Two genotypes lacking B-hordeins are observed where the low hordein content refers to good malting quality. 18 genotypes are described as bearing the mildew resistance genes (Mla 1, Mla4Mla7Ab12, Mla4Mla7, Mlg and Mla8Mlv). The clustering of hordein patterns in a dendrogram presents three cluster groups, where the main group consists of 34 sub-clusters and genotypes with similarity coefficient higher than 50%. The cms-lines and their fertile analogues are described with high level of similarity by hordein spectra.
