Effect of the Mycotoxins Zearalenone and Aflatoxin B1 on the Karyotype and Growth in Bovans White Breed Chickens

An experiment was carried out in order to investigate the effect of concentrate mix containing Zearalenone and Aflatoxin B1 contaminated corn in 100 male Bovans White chickens.
The chickens were allocated into 5 groups as fallow: I group (control) - low level of corn contamination (Zearelenone - 12 ppb and Aflatoxin B1 - 2 ppb); II, III, IV and V experimental groups - high level of corn contamination (Zearelenone - 274 ppb and Aflatoxin B1 - 123 ppb). Third and fourth groups diet were supplemented with mycotoxin-binder Mycofix-plus (0.15%) the only difference between the two groups being that IV group received additionally 0.03% DL-methionin and V group received additionally 1% zeolit Klinotox in DL-methionin stead.The duration of the experiment was 1 month - from 6 to 10 weeks of age.
The chromosomes were analysed by digitally captured with a video CCD-camera, microscope and IBM PC Pentium II. No metaphase cells with changes in the structure of the macro-chromosomes and the number of genomes were found.
No significant differences (P > 0.05) in the body weight and the feed intake between the experimental groups were found.
