Effects of Different Ethrel Dosages on Some Quality Attributes of Cv. Hayward (Actinidia deliciosa)

This research was carried out to determine the some quality attributes of cultivar Hayward by using different ethrel dosages in Department of Horticulture of Tekirdag Agricultural Faculty of Trakya University in 2002 in Turkey.
The experiment design was established as 4 replicates according to randomized complete blocks with factorial and 40 kiwifruits were used for each replicate. In order to determine effect of different ethrel dosages on cultivar Hayward, 0 (control), 250, 500, 750 and 1000 ppm ethrel dosages (48%) were prepared and kiwifruits were treated with them. In this research, some quality attributes such as firmness of fruit flesh (kg), pH of fruit juice, soluble solids (%), content of vitamin C (mg/100 ml) and loss of weight in fruit (g) were examined.
When it was examined the day x dosage interaction in all criteria, it would be seen that due to firmness of fruit flesh, the lowest value was obtained from 5th day with 1000 ppm ethrel dosage (1.400 kg) and the highest value was obtained from 5th day with 250 ppm ethrel dosage (3.500 kg); due to pH of fruit juice, the lowest value was obtained from 5th day with 500 ppm (3.380) and the highest value was obtained from 3rd day with 750 ppm ethrel dosage (3.990); due to soluble solids, the lowest value was obtained from 2nd day with 250 ppm ethrel dosage (9.730%) and the highest value was obtained from 4th and 5th day with 1000 ppm ethrel dosage (13.000%); due to content of vitamin C, the lowest value was obtained from 4th day with 500 ppm ethrel dosage (120.000 mg/100 ml) and the highest value was obtained from 5th day with 1000 ppm ethrel dosage (325.000 mg/100 ml); due to loss of weight in fruit, the lowest value was obtained from 5th day with 0 ppm (102.00 g) and the highest value was obtained from 1st and 2ndday with 1000 ppm ethrel dosage (130.00 g).
Under the light of research results, the best edible quality attributes in cultivar Hayward occurred at 1000 ppm ethrel dosage and by the end of 5th day after ethrel treatment.
