Polyploidization of Lavender (Lavandula vera V.) in vitro

A trial was carried out for tetraploidization of diploid lavender (Raya variety) in vitro. The method used was worked out in Stevia Rebaudiana by Slavova and Ivanova (Krumov et al., 1984). Stem apices of 15-20 mm length were used as initial material. The substance used for polyploidization (0.1% colchicine) was added along with 1.5% dimethyl-sulphoxide into medium for rooting. It was established 64% tetraploids as a result of flow-cytometric evaluation of the plants survived after colchicine shock.
