Changes in Androgenic Response of Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) Varieties After Spike Treatment with Gamma – Rays

The effect of spike treatment with gamma-rays on anther culture response in wheat varieties was investigated. Irradiation of the spikes had generally negative consequences on androgenic ability. Callus induction and plant regeneration were affected to a lower degree, as compared to green plant proportion and yield at dose 1 Gy. Anther culture response additionally decreased at dose 10 Gy, but green plants were regenerated in varieties Svilena, Aglika and Kristal. The dose 20 Gy was detrimental for the induction and regeneration process and some green plants were produced only in variety Svilena.
