Abstract

STEFANOVA, M., G. VASILEV, M. VITKOV, V. ZLATEV and M. STEFANOV, 2002. Studies on the serovar-specific plasmids of Salmonella isolated in different regions of Bulgaria. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 8: 111–114

Research was conducted on the plasmid profile of 144 field strains of Salmonella. The plasmid profiles differed between serovars. S. gallinarum strains contain plasmids of 50, 60, 31, 25, 16, 12, 6.5, 3 and 2 MDa in a variety of combinations; serovar-specific to the Bulgarian strains is the heavy 40 MDa plasmid. S. enteritidis strains contain plasmids of 42, 58, 20, 17, 16, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4.8, 2.6, and 1.4 MDa in different combinations; serovar-specific to the Bulgarian strains is the heavy 42 MDa plasmid. S. typhimurium strains contain 4 plasmids of 45, 16, 6 and 3.5 MDa; serovar-specific to the Bulgarian strains is the heavy 45 MDa plasmid.
