DRAGANOVA, S. and S. SIMOVA, 2001. Entomopathogenic fungi on Aphis pomi De Geer (Homoptera: Aphididae) and Tetranychus urticae K. (Acarina: Tetranychoidea). Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 7: 595-599
Naturally occurrence of entomopathogenic fungi on Aphis pomi De Geer (Homoptera: Aphididae) and Tetranychus urticae K. (Acarina: Tetranychoidea) has been studied in orchards untreated with pesticides. The orchards are in regions near Sofia. Dead aphids and mites were collected in the summer of 2000 and 2001. Epizootic on A. pomi observed in the summer of 2000 seems to be caused by species belonging to Entomophthorales (Zygomycotina). By microbiological analyses it has been identified the pathogens on A. pomi as Neozygites fresenii (Nowakowski) Remaud. and Keller, Zoophthora neoaphidis (Remaud. and Henneb.) Balazy, Conidiobolus obscurus (Hall and Dunn) Remaud. and Keller, Entomophthora sp. Fres. (Entomophthorales, Zygomycotina) and representatives of Hyphomycetes (Deuteromycotina) Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill., Paecilomyces sp. Bain. and Trichothecium roseum Link. It has been found the prevalence of the cases with mycoses caused by N. fresenii. Between naturally occurred entomopathogenic fungi on T. urticae it has been established the predominance of Neozygites floridana (Weiser and Muma) Remaud. and Keller (Entomophthorales, Zygomycotina). The representatives of Hyphomycetes (Deuteromycotina) have been presented scarcely. From dead aphids and mites it has been isolated into pure cultures two strains of B. bassiana.
