Abstract

SABEVA, I., 2001. Selection aspects of the quality of movements in horses from Arabian breed. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 7: 193-196

The study was carried out on the basis of data from complex assessment of 139 Arabian horses at 2.5 and 3.5 years of age, born in Kabiuk stud. It was established the level of the phenotypic and genotypic variance of gaits.
Sources of variance were the lines, mothers' lines, sex, year of birth and breeding type. The representatives of the lines of Kuhailan Afas and Faruk had the best mechanic of movements at 2.5 years of age. The mothers from the of Kuhailan Haifi, Faruk, Pamuk and Amurath left offspring that exceeds the population mean.
There were calculated high phenotypic and genotypic correlations between the estimation of gaits and the estimations of head, neck, corpus, front and hind legs: constitution, muscles, tendons and temperament.
