Studies that have been carried out aim to investigate the effect of bioaccumulation of natural radionuclides on the lipid peroxidation in two important fish species, carp and roach, living in the cooling-reservoir Ovcharitza (Bulgaria). We found out considerably increased quantities (Bq/kg) of U-238, Ra-226, Pb-212, Tl-208 and Bi-214 in the liver tissue from investigated fish group.
Two key parameters of the lipid peroxidation were chosen for detecting of disturbances in the normal processes. The obtained results show the increased levels of conjugated diens during the winter and increasing of malondialdehyde during the summer. No difference in two investigated species in respect of the quantities and dynamics of diens and malondialdehydes, that allowed using them as bioindicators for studying radio-contamination in this water system.
