Investigation of Some Biochemical Parameters in Cervical Mucus Samples of Fertile, Repeat Breeder and PGF2a Synchronised Cows

In the present study, a total of 45 cervical mucus samples obtained from 30 fertile and 15 repeat breeder cows was studied. Fifteen of 30 fertile cows were injected with prostaglandin F2a (PGF2a ).
Samples were collected by vacuum into sterile syringes by means of a catheter at spontaneous estrus in fertile and repeat breeder groups and at the insemination time in PGF2a synchronised group. Mucus samples were kept in a deep freezer at -200C prior to biochemical analysis.
Sialic acid, total protein, and calcium levels, ALP and ACP enzyme activities were determined by spectrophotometric method and also Na and K levels were determined by using flamephotometer.
Sialic acid (g/ml), total protein (g/dl), Na (mEq/l), K (mEq/l), and Ca (mg/dl) levels, ALP (IU/l) and ACP (IU/l) enzyme activities were found as 661.40, 390.40 and 628.30; 0.57, 0.36 and 0.48; 140.73, 108,27 and 131.07; 10.31, 8.65 and 11.67; 6.02, 7.33 and 6.12; 79.25, 63.80 and 74.20 and 10.88, 8.17 and 11.55 for fertile, repeat breeder and PGF2a a synchronised groups, respectively.
In the sialic acid levels, statistically significant differences were determined between fertile and repeat breeder groups, and PGF2a synchronised and repeat breeder groups (P<0.05). Statistically significant difference was found between fertile and PGF2a synchronised groups for Na levels (P<0.05). In the ACP enzyme activity, statistically significant difference was determined between PGF2a synchronised and repeat breeder groups (P<0.05). There were no statistically significant differences among the total protein, K, Ca levels and the ALP activities.
