Study on Milk Composition of White Maritza Sheep and Dynamics During Milking Period

Abstract

This study has been carried out in the herd of Agroecological center in Plovdiv. Milk composition of White Maritza sheep (local breed) and dynamics in the course of milking period was investigated on 20 ewes (12 primiparous and 8 old ewes). Milk recording was performed during milking period only. Fat contents of ewes on 1st lactation was 6.03 %, and 6.53 % in old ewes (6.23 % for whole tested group). The protein was 5.91 % and vary between 5.97 % in primiparous ewes and 5. 81 % in old ewes). In the two tested groups lactose contents was high 5.07 %. Dry matter was 18.03 %, which coincides with normal values for sheep milk. Solids not fat in this study was 11.89 %, which is higher than minimum requirements. Fat and protein contents have changeable tendency of increasing during milking period. Fluctuation in dry matter and dry matter without fat in the course of milking period follow normal tendencies of variation in comparatively narrow margins. Comparatively high percent of protein and lactose could be accepted as specific peculiarity in this study.
